hey guys, I've been having a slight hesitation when i start my dyna, it seems electrical but who knows. then a few times, the last time i went and got gas, i had to hit the start button about 10 times to get it to finally turn over, seems like something that's gonna continue to get worse so i wanna get it takin care of before i end up gettin stranded somewhere and calling a tow truck. my dyna is a 2001 with about 25k miles, I was thinking mayb the plugs and wires need to be changed, anyone have any ideas of what this could b? thanks
If it is having a hard timing turning over then that is not the plugs or plug wires. There is a problem in the starter circuit. Possibly an worn starter, starter relay, starter solenoid, weak battery, bad connection. A lot of times this problem can be traced back to a bad ground such as a loose ground connection or corrosion build up on the battery ground wire either at the battery or at the grounding point. I would check the wires at the battery connection, starter solenoid and the ground at the battery and where it connects to the frame.

Check back with us when you have made sure your battery connections are tight and your voltage is up to par.
thanks guys, i checked the battery cables and both are on snug and corrosion free.
just curious does any1 know what that rectangular thing is right under the seat?
my guess is its the alarm, it has a circular imprint on the underside which I'm guessing is the alarm's siren. if it is, can i just unplug it? its a hassle every time i need to get to the battery and i never use the alarm, my bike is garaged, and the alarm was going off randomly last month until i put it in transport mode so now the lights just blink if the alarm is armed and i push on the bike.
ya i should just switch the plugs b/c who knows how old they are. the bike was my dad's and i know he didnt pay any attn to the bike's maintenance, i think i changed the oil on it more than he did

Okay, the battery connections are tight. What about the voltage? You need a volt meter.
Hook it up to your + and - on you battery. What does it read?
Now start the bike. What is the voltage reading?
Now with the bike at idle, slowly rev the engine to about 2500 RPMs ( i know you don't have a tach - guess) and watch the volt meter. Does the voltage increase to 14+ volts?
If the alarm was sounding here and there most likely the battery is going bad. This is very common in car elec sys with alarms. I am sure that the same apply to cycle elec sys. I would change out the batt and also always use a tender if you are not!!
first i left wk and there was a slight hesitation on the start. then i stopped for gas and went to start after filling the tank and i had to hit the start button about 10times. the same situation happened last time i got gas, there seems to b some correlation between mayb the gas gauge and the starter, it just doesnt seem like a coincidence, i bet next time i get gas the same thing is gonna happen. and i really dont get y the front tire wobbles@about 80mph, is that a tire balance thing, it doesnt seem right, the bike did sit unridden for years, mayb the balance is all screwed up, i need to sell
