Engine & frame question
This will be my very first custom build. I love Harleys but, none of todays bikes grab me. I am looking at a Thompson Choppers Soft Tail Frame and I want the Harley Twin Cam 110CI motor and a 6 speed Tranny. From the website I was looking at; in the the engine description it states the engine MUST ONLY be installed in certain models? Of course the Soft Tail isn't one of em! The Soft Tail 88A or B just doesn't do it for me. I'm a speed freak.... I love power and this engine seems to be the biggest CI wise Engine I can get in a Harley motor.
My question obviously is: Can I install a 110CI Harley Motor in this frame and still be street legal in Washington State?
I'm so geen the paint ain't even been mixed yet so be gentle PLEASE....
ST-HH.
Before you go shopping for an engine, there are other options of Harley-like V-twins and it is likely they will be much cheaper. There are several alternative brands that make Evo and Twincam style motors, in a wide range of sizes. The largest that will fit a stock Harley frame is around 131", but there are even bigger ones out there. If you really want H-D on your engine, they do a remarkable 120R, which should stir the juices!
As for the frame you mention, I suggest you call in on the Custom forum here on HDF and see what those chaps think about them. They are so busy over there not many of them call in on the DIY one here!
