Default Cam Lift

Build Info: Ported/Polished Heads .040 off heads using .050 gasket, Wiseco 4917PS 10.5:1 Pistons 2vp Domed 103cid Clear .0020, Valves 1.940" Intake and 1.630" exhaust, Andrews 216360G (60HG) Gear Drive Cams .560 valve lift, Hi Lift springs Travel .610, Andrews Gear Drive Kit 216908 4 gear outer kit, Andrews Adjustable pushrods.

Issue, original builder told me no compression release valves needed. Charging system taking beating from trying to start. 2 New batteries, voltage regulator, stator, starter solenoid rebuild and starter cleaned and dressed. Still using 10-15 amps to start.

Friend recommends we swap cams vs adding release valves. Use the S&S Easy Start Cam. He recommended 557, but looking at stats told me wrong grind ... cross reference charts recommended 60HG be replaced by 625 kit. I called S&S to verify. So I ordered and on way. Now friend is concerned the clearance will be too tight because we are trying to swap cams without total disassembly.

So here comes the question ... based on build info, and knowing the valve lift from 60HG is .560 and the S&S Easy Start 625 is .625 is there going to be clearance issues to fix? Should i mild down cam lift with different grind? Friend thinks I should do 587 or less. Don't want to flatten horse power gained from orig build. Please offer your opinion. Thanks.

Have you discussed your problem with your builder? He knows what went into it and should be able to help!
