Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
I have been thinking about bumping up the motor a little bit for a while now. I have a 99 RK with 50k on it so it probably wouldn't hurt to freshen it up alittle anyway.
I have S&S carb and adjustable pushrods, SE ignition. recently did Andrews 26 cams, new tensioners.
Last week I tore down my motor and on a buddies (also local indy) advice I'm getting Zippers 95 (9:1 Wiseco Flat Top Pistons) getting the heads freshened up, and beehive valve springs (I think) (total around $950)
I'm not looking for a racer, just a little more *** and to be dependable. More interested in some torque than Hp
I'm waiting on it all to get here and wondering what type of results to expect out of this combo.
I have been searching all night for info on this with no luck. seems everyone only says 95 kit and don't say what compression or they are using a different compression ratio.
any thoughts on this match up?
Headwork really makes a difference on early heads. On the cheap, switching to late heads is a nice budget bump. With 26 cams ya can go to 9.5 for some more bottom. 95" 9.5-1 pistons and some take-off late heads ought to give ya a nice boost without breaking the bank.
bump the compression to 9.5-1 by milling the heads and have the ex ports D shaped with a fully raduised valve job (you could have saved some coin by just boring your cylinders to a set of SE 22851-99A pistons, with headwork, youde be a lot less than 900.00)

Both good suggestions, and I will add, if it was here we would've suggested boring to 98".
We sign off at 9.6 cr with that cam, and usually see in the area of 110 ft/lbs, and hp hovering in the low-mid 90's with our Stage II head.
It should run good for you.
