Default Options for tc88 rebuild?

Hey gang,
I have a question about my tc88 that I would appreciate as much input as possible on. Last year I bought a FLHRCI thinking it would be a 'reliable stock' bike to ride while I worked on my 100+ hp sportster project..I can hear some of you right now...."...and you thought a 2003 tc88 would be reliable?!?! pffft...riiiight" point taken: i learn face down in the mud often.

well Sporty is done and and embarrasing BT owners here in Oklahoma City on a regular basis....BUT, the RoadKing took a big ol dump about 2 days after tearing down the XL.....crap.

the prognosis is not good, the pinion shaft wobbled so much it broke the oil pump gears and wallard around in the cam plate destroying it as well...so obviously the flywheels are comming out. So my question is:

Being forced to do a rebuild, what is the best set up (in your humble opinions LOL) to back with?....My intent is not to build a race monster if i want to go fast i will ride the better handleing sporty. touring 2 up (350 lb for both wife and me) and lots of metro highway cruising. here is what i am thinking so far: S&S stroker 106 wheels, bore my existing jugs and add the S&S pistons to match. heads get freshened up but prolly not ported just yet, stock cams (upgrade if they measure out poorly for wear) powervision or other programmabke tuner, keep the true duals,
would i need a variable fuel injector kit for that...im thinking my stock equipment would be enough to supply 106 with no headwork or throttle body upgrades..

I apprecieate all you comments and suggestions..

looking forward to getting underway on this in the next 2 months. here is my last build for any interested http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/s....php?t=1725973

Chris

thats a good question anachris. Im in the same boat. I have a 2000 heritage springer and want to give it more bump to but dont need a rocket like my xl.

Is bottom end work needed or can i leave it alone. I will have a thunderheader on it and a mikuni 45.

wiser heads may have better input but I believe that Mother Harley has been putting soft cranks in BTs since '99. That being said...I can't imagine NOT doing anything to it. I think that in both our cases the minimum Job would be disassembling the stock wheels and reassemble with new stuff, and weld the bitch together...next step would be the S&S i just mentioned...or something like it.
I am seriously going to look into that....idk, i have time.....finally got to twist a little on the 'girly bike'.... im at a 190 main after verifying the pilot at 45...buddy asked to drag off a light. ....i left them all....eh eh eh, not quite what your beast is doing but our build are very similar, save the pipe and carb....wow!!...just wow and i didnt even bump 6K (still on break in ya know..)_

props

S&S 4.375" crank, or a 4.500" crank can both put you in the good power zone, along with the proper cam and headwork.
