With compression reliefs and new springs it came out to almost $1,200.

....and I agree I'm done with too.

I have to side with Kirby on this.

How about warranty issues? Do you really think Darkhorse will pay you to remove the engine from the bike? If issues develop? When that SE comp takes a crap, MOCO will LAUGH at you.

No one is a mind reader, and since I do not see where you stated you wished the larger throat, plain and clear, it was on you..... it is ALWAYS on the engine BUILDER to check all parts, etc. DIYers always have an issue or two, due to lack of experience. They do NOT clay the pistons. They do NOT check cylinder bores for roundness and taper.

And speaking of which, wait until that 106 kit starts burning oil. I have tried THREE of those kits and have always had to rebuild the top ends, bore the cylinders out to a 107, and use new pistons. S&S will do a rebore, but do you think they will pay for downtime, etc? Nooooooooo, they will NOT.

And lastly... going with a larger TB will do basically nothing for your build. A flattop build with mild cams? C'mon.

Reading the highlighted emails it looks like bobber does imply to go with the larger runners, his reply to the suggestion was "that sounds great" i think, and he stated the larger tbody was OTW next year to take advantage of the heads which again implies needing the larger runners. The communication here was vague and not solidly agreed upon leaving room for this kind of error. Whenever doing a build these details are obviously important and worth getting in writing AND measuring before install. JMHO

You asked for compensation and didn't specify what you wanted. He offered to fix them for free, and you bitch about buying new gaskets? LOL

I think the lesson to be learned from this post is to know what you want before you send your junk off to get worked on.

I DO feel the pain involved. Back a few years... I was doing the same stuff in MY garage. Those S&S 106 kits taught me MY lessons. I clay, I have a set of torque plates and bore gauges. It really IS on the engine builder, no matter who that engine builder is.

We have ALL bought and simply ran what we have bought. Sigh... no matter where something comes from, it always pays to be very specific and check check and double check again.....

Right now im working with a builder on making an S&S 124" and assumptions will bite you in the ***. When I finally get ALL the details into my thick skull then it should go smooth. I already assumed certain things but we got that cleared up.

Just my .02 here..
I thing both parties involved should "WRITE" down and agree on paper what is being done...I have had the same thing happen to me on cars too!Thinking I had this done so I didn't check it,put everything together because I'm happy my chit came in and come to find out wrong stuff was done, not necessary wrong on the machine shop, but wrong because nothing was in clear writing or an agreement! "CLEAR COMMUNICATION " is key!

Default Wish I found this before I bought from Kirby

I bought a set up from Kirby or whatever idiot(s) he has working there after 2014. This is my experience. All arrived seal and packaged nicely. Open the head box up and kindly received my heads with free grass clippings inside and a bent exhaust stud..... Yes I **** you not.
Not bad for $1200 he charged me and yes they failed with a valve stem leak. ( Naive, I guess it is my own fault for not tearing it down, cleaning each part and putting it back together after spending $1200) Hey Brand New S&S heads were roughly the same price, fooled me with his $795 stage 2 heads with no valves or springs there add ons at extra price
I had also ordered a full gasket kit but only received the gaskets to do the job. (half the kit missing)

I never mentioned the the clippings to him as i took it in good faith washed them blow them out twice but hey dust/dirt engines no a good mix and as i said before naive. He sent me replacement valve seals which i paid for and again they failed so i carefully rechecked and came to the conclusion seals were wrong size and changed them to specs of guide and leak stoped

In the end like anyone i guess has encountered a problem KIRBY IS NOT AT FAULT and it is you problem to deal with.
!!!!!!! So do not order over the phone or net from him. You will lose waste your money. !!!!!!

Complete??? Cometic Top End Gasket Kit

Kirby Heads complete with bent exhaust stud. $1200 not even new studs

Sorry about your experience but my experience with Kirby was great. I would use him again in a heartbeat.
