Possible Cam tensioner issue

Default Possible Cam tensioner issue
All, My 2000 RK has been acting freaky lately. Last week I noticed it overheating on a cool day in traffic. I got the bike to highway speed to cool her off and I noticed a lack of power and spark knock. This AM I did an oil change and when I was bringing her to temp and I heard a very strange rattle coming from the right lower area. I listened closely and heard a loud crunch, and it almost stalled. I goosed the throttle (don't know why) and it backed fired instead of revving. Could this be the cam tensioner? If it starts to go out, will it change the cam timing and cause the lack of power and knocking/overheating? I cant see that happening due to it being a chain. Let me know... TIA

Yes, all those bad things can happen and more. Don't start it again til you open up the cam cover and have a look.

Yep, pull the cam cover and look inside. You can use a small dental mirror to view the rear tensioner.
