Sportster Starter motor Fusing ignition
Hey,
Got a 93 Sporty, bored from 883 to 1200. The starter motor has been sluggish since the rebore like it don't have enough oomph but it always turns the bike over anyway. However, it has just started blowing the fusible link when I crank it from cold and sometimes when warm. Sometimes it does not even try and throw the dog out, just fuses. If I hit the back with a big hammer this corrects the short and the ignition comes back on and if I'm lucky it then turns. Before I pull it all apart, any suggestions?
I thought it might be the brushes and commutator need a clean or just new brushes, but not sure if I can pop this off without pulling the whole lot apart.
Any suggestions very gratefully accepted.
