Default Mondello Racing

I stopped by Joe Mondello racing last week to talk to them about head porting and such. I was quite surprised when the porter said they had done Harley's before. Nice guys, reasonable pricing. Just wondering if anyone had experience working with them or heard of their abilities with Harley's. Their reputation in the auto world is outstanding. They are local so supporting a local business is a plus.

Thanks

Who is running it now that Joe passed away? Thats the question? Not Kyle Matthews is it?

I don't know. I'll see if I can get back there to get some more info. Is there a problem with Kyle?

He tried a few years ago to get Joe Mondello and Darin Morgan(Reher-Morrison) to help him get a company off the ground: here is what he said regarding the failure of that business:

Well as you might have heard, Joe Mondello, my partner in the business, died in April and right now I am just doing some odds and ends. Mondello Tec did all the machine work, boring, honing, decking and valve work and since joe's death the shop has been in a transition phase. Their primary business is race engines and I have decided to pull back a bit and let them get their feet back under them.

In addition, I never really wanted to do the usually Harley Head stuff. There are plenty of guys out there doing a good job at the usual street performance head. T man, etc. My focus was high end race technology for the street and as you are aware, the economy made that idea economically unfeasible over the past 3 years. Too bad, really some interesting R&D work with Joe, Darin Morgan now back at Reher Morrison, and Hogan's Racing Manifolds. I was able to get the prototype fuel injection manifold done for the M3 head but haven't
tested it yet. Hopefully in the future I can get back to doing more
of this kind of work.

Good luck, and sorry I couldn't help you.

I would NOT do it. WIth Joe dead, it would be way better to have a dedicated Harley Shop port your heads. They would have all of the fixtures, etc to do a nice job, as opposed to a shop running on empty thinking they MAY have done ONE set of Harley heads in the past.

You are NOT wanting all out race heads, you want either a Street Port or one step up from that. And those? There is simply more to it than hogging a set of heads to flow max numbers.

Top head porters today are WFOLarry and John Sachs. Surely NOT TMan, as he does things out of house on an assembly line like deal. Same with a few on here that sell that "they' do it, when in fact they do NOT.

Thanks for everyone's help. I had read about some of the development work they were doing, shame it never got finished. I'll look up Larry and John. Thanks again for the advice.

We use variations of those seat-form cutters here as well.
