Default timing chain issues

I have a 2000 road king with 88 cubic inch. I started the motor and the oil light came on so I turned off the engine and cut open the filter and found small sand like pieces of something. what is that and is it a costly repair.

Going to need to pop off the cam cover and have a look at the tensioners. I assume what you found was orange in color. If you are handy with a wrench and nothing is too torn up in there, you may get away relatively inexpensively. The oil pump is in there, too. Get a manual if you don't have one.

if it is tensioners, having the debris mess up the oil pump isn't a good sign (as far as being inexpensive)pop the cover off & check it out.but on the best case scenario, your looking at a pump, cam plate & completely flushing your oil system.good time to either go to gear drive cams or a SE hyd. up grade

Went to gear drive one week ago and I can't wipe the grin off my face!! It is true what a difference it makes, I have a 01 wideglide with 36,500 miles and it runs better than new, wish I had done it long, long ago! Oh and by the way when we pulled the front tensioner it just fell apart (the nylon shoe) man was I lucky. I went with the S&S gear drive cam .510 They say .509 is better for baggers cause it gives more torque from idle-4500. Also I put in torque cones couple days later and got even more low end torque, they do make a noticeable difference, this is just an fyi for ya, it's a little more expensive for the gear drive but I don't have to even think about those damn tensioners any more and to me that's priceless!

IMO,the gear drive set up is like the old FRAM comercials,"you can pay me now,or pay me later".best product to ever come out for the 99-06 TC`s

We tested back/back gear drives/chain drives years ago on a 2000 Dyna, with a Wood 9B.
Just about 3/3 difference.
Oh, and btw that 95"er pulled 110 hp thru the stock, re-jetted CV carb.
