I don't know how others operate, but we have a sign behind the counter saying this;

"Do you bring bagged potatoes and ground beef to McDonalds?
We didn't think so...........
Our business here is baised on the sales and installation of the high-quality parts we provide.
Thank you."

So in other words...If you don't make a profit off parts you won't do the work. Sounds like NY attitude to me.

So would you be OK with a higher hourly rate, when people bring parts in? And no warranty?

I don't know what you do, but I doubt you work for free.

You bet I would! And who said I work at all?

Because if you brought me the parts that's what you would be paying.
That's an informed decision by the consumer. It's called risk, and we all take some. So let's say "somewhere else" in this case is Fuel Moto in Wisconsin, and I live in Washington State. What am I going to pay to get my bike to Wisconsin and back so FM can do the work? Compare that to whatever I may have to gulp down if I have my local guy do it, and I think it starts to make some sense to buy from one place and install at another. "I don't know what business you're in" but logistics do matter.

I have to say you come off as a cheap asshat!! It's people like you that help put Indy shops and dealers out of business!!
Funny....I'm supporting the idea of buying from a bigger business like FM and installing at a local one-man shop in my home town, and you're accusing me of helping to put someone out of business. Seems a bit backwards.

Ok, great. I don't know Harry extremely well, but my friends & family have praised his work. As far as I know he's a one-man show who operates out of a shop from his home. He's a classic car collector as well. I went to the shop last Summer, very clean & professional looking. Hopefully it works out!

Call Don Dorfman in Edgewood. Don is primarily a head porter and also offers motor "packages" similar to what other shops offer. I have no idea if Don has any interest in building your motor but could refer you to an independent in your area that would be.

to set the record straight here. I never said I was going to bring my own parts. I never said I wouldn't by the parts from the local guy. What I did ask was if anyone knows a reputable shop that can install a Fuel Moto kit. Wouldn't that imply that I want a shop that is comfortable working with Fuel Moto parts? I would think it does. I've decided I want the Fuel Moto solution for my own reasons, I want to know if anyone local works with Fuel Moto parts and yes, I've already reached out to Fuel Moto for a referral but they don't have a shop they recommend here. That doesn't mean there isn't a quality shop here that works with Fuel Moto parts, it just means that Fuel Moto doesn't have a formal relationship with a local shop here. I'm sure there are more than one local quality shops around here. If I can find one that works with Fuel Moto parts, I'm all set. I've thought about shipping my bike out to Fuel Moto in WI then flying out to get it and ride it back. Maybe coordinate the timeline with Sturgis next year and come back through there.
