Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
2014 Softail Slim already had BSS, black ops turbine and Fuelpak3 - just installed SE 255 Cams, Fueling Lifters, perfect fit pushrods, supertuner And had it Dyno tuned - came in at 82.6 HP and 102 TQ. - Torque feels nice... A good amount of decal pop though.
There ya go; dealers are not tuners. Most dealers download a map; tweak it a bit and call it good. You don't have the most sophisticated fuel management system available but you need to get the bike in the hands of a good tuner, so find one and let him have a go at it. There should be no decal popping from a properly tuned motor.
I talked to the dealer and they said bring it by do they can take a look.
I have read some articles lately that say a "perfectly tuned engine" can still have a good bit of decel pop. It can be tuned out...you will then have no decel pop but your engine will be out of tune.
I'm surprised that there are two totally different answers to this. Some say that there should never be any deceleration pop after proper tune, and others say it's actually fine and normal even on a perfectly tuned engine...
Both arguments seem to be backed up with actual facts.....

Gotta call BS on that; I would not ride a bike that popped on decal. Decel popping is a clear indicator that the bike is not properly tuned or there are exhaust or intake leaks in the system.
Your OP says FP3 and then "super tuner"; so which is it?
You may be lucky and your dealer tech a top notch tuner but that would be the exception to the rule. I would not return to the dealer but find a competent tuner.
I had a fuelpak3 and switched to super tuner when I did the cam upgrade.
I went back to the dealer today the Dyno guy took it in the back made some adjustments, Took it for a ride, came back made more adjustments, deceleration popping is going, running good
He said that there shouldn't have been any decel popping... And that there about 4 ways to correct it...he said that he set it to "fire to the top" or "fire all the way up" or "spark all the way up" or "ignite to the top". Or some **** ". Maybe he was full of ****....there are no Dyno tuners around me other than dealerships.
