Hello all, I am planing a new motor build for my new to me '05 Softail Deluxe. The donor motor is a stock 88B that will be coming apart as it needs a new crank among a bunch of other things. Here is the list of components I am planning on using for the rebuild, some of which I already have, and some I still need to pick up.
-S&S 4-3/8" crank (Timken bearing conversion)
-S&S 3.927" pistons (in bored stock cylinders)
-Feuling 594 Gear Drive Cams
-S&S Roller Rockers
-S&S Gears for Cams
-S&S Premium Lifters
-S&S Quickee Pushrods
-Feuling Race Series Cam Plate
-Feuling Race Series Oil Pump
-Heads from a 103" because they have ACR's already in them
-Feuling Bee Hive Valve Springs
-Headwork to be done by AMS with oversize valves/porting
-.030" head gaskets
-Trask Mystfree breather kit
-Horsepower Inc. 51mm Throttle Body (stock runner length?)
-Stock Injectors
-Big Sucker Stage II Intake
-Samson 39" cholo fishtails (more for the look I want than for making power)
-TTS Master Tune
This should yield a fun 106" motor. I am also installing a Baker OD6 transmission, a Barnett Scorpion low profile lockup clutch, BDL comp sprocket and Hayden M6 primary chain adjuster among other little odds and ends, maybe a 31 tooth front pulley.
I want to keep the compression around 10.5:1 (what do the 594's like?) so running on 93 octane won't be an issue and am looking for mid to high rpm power. Does anyone have any input/thoughts/tips/concerns/questions on this build? I will update this thread as progress is made and will at the end post the numbers from the dyno tune. Thank you all in advance!

Pics of the bike this motor will be going in....
The day I picked it up
After a good detail and adding a few bits to get it started in the direction I am shooting for. I threw a set of pipes I had laying around the shop to give her some sound...
As she sits right now

JMHO but I would be talking to Hoban Brothers (AKA Darkhorse) about one of their "worked" OEM cranks with their heavy duty rods and would be considering sending them the lower for machine work and crank installation.
Why stop with 106"? Cost to go to 117" is marginal, just need cylinders, pistons and case boring? You will be regret spending what you will be spending and not going as big as you can.
Not a fan of the Fueling hardware; think it is overpriced. The SE billet plate and pump assembly is more than adequate for the build and will cost less.
The Fueling 594 cams have a very late intake close; there are better choices like the S&S 585 or TMan 590. Or, increase compression up to 10.7-10.8.
I would not spend for the BDL comp sprocket; the OEM unit is fine. Nor would I spend for the Hayden adjustor. I have two performance Harleys and the OEM pieces wear well and I can't remember when I last adjusted the chain. If you are looking at the BDL comp sprocket to change the primary drive ratio, consider sticking with OEM hardware and converting to 24/37 primary which will work very well with the Baker OD6.
You asked for input/thoughts; JMHO but those are mine.
Clean machine no doubt.
No headwork with all those other goodies?
Scott
LOL, plenty of headwork....I just didn't list all they were doing. I believe 2.00" intake valves, 1.65" exhaust valves and whatever other black magic they do to really get them flowing!
ide go with a 54mm,1.750 runner T.body.get rid of the fueling plate (use a stock one),get rid of the fueling beehive springs (use AV&V,much cheaper and just as good if not better spring) and HPI 5.3 injectors
actually didn't even notice the cams.6`s would be a good choice IMO,6H`s maybe.but if he wants to stick with the fueling cams, ide either raise the compression up to 11.0-1 for the .594`s or use the .574`s at 10.5-1 (my #1 choice would be S&S .585`s set at 10.5-1)
Thank you for the replies guys. After more deliberation I think I will buy the Revolution kit to make this bad boy a 117". I can get that kit and the boring done for roughly $400-$500 more than the S&S pistons and boring some stock cylinders. That being said, i will probably need to get the 55mm or 58mm throttle body? Will I need bigger injectors as well?
As for using HD parts (oil pump and cam plate) as mentioned for cost saving, would this also be the case if cost was not an issue? I mean, if they were laying there side by side with the Feuling Race Series oil pump and cam plate and you were told to pick up one set or the other to use, no cost involved, would you still pick the HD parts? The reason I ask is I can get the Feuling parts at roughly 50% of list price.
I will look into the AV&V valve springs as they are what AMS uses when doing heads and I have not purchased the Feuling Bee Hive springs yet. Which ones do they have that will support a cam with over 600 lift?
As always, thank you or the responses and help with this, This is my first full motor build and I truly appreciate all the input.
