I haven't touched it of late. I have come up with a better rear mounting, which I need to get a pal to make, when he has time. I also now have a fuel level sender which I hope to get mounted in the tank and working. I originally thought I would try mounting a similar one to my Evo in the tank, but that doesn't seem so feasible now. I have primed my brother to help sort out mounting the new one (I have my skilled artisans lined up!). Hope to get back into meddling with it soon. Then it will be remodel the nose of my saddle to match it.

I am a latecomer to this threat but thanks so much for the info, I am looking to do the same think to my 1984 FLHTC and this has helped a ton. I am subscribed and cant wait to hear how all of this comes together for you.

If I understand right, I will have to relocate the oil reservoir also to fit the battery under the seat? Or were you just doing that to upgrade the tranny?

Seems to me it must be possible to find a battery that will fit in beside the existing oil tank, that will squeeze in. I can see scope to build a custom tank in the space around a 93 battery, skills permitting. I wouldn't personally fancy fitting a later trans to get rid of the oil tank, that seems a step too far!

okay, finally got the thing running. had to replace the starter, after i bought, ground and modified a new solenoid repair kit. so much for my diagnostic abilities. anyway as promised, here are some photos of the battery relocated under the seat and the "93 saddlebag mount. of course none of the parts got painted. photo 0165 shows the 2002 road king seat in place. LePera and love it. photo 0167 shows the bracket. the white lines are just silicone strips (bathtub silicone)that separate the battery from the bracket and absorb vibration. 0168 shows a sportster size battery in the bracket, 0166 shows the battery panel cut back with the '93 bag behind it. all i had for trim when i did this on a holiday was fuel line, never changed it after that. 0169 shows how i had to move the rubber mount on the '93 bag back an inch or so to land on the support. 0170 is a bit of the battery tray that needed ground away, 0171 & 0174 shows the battery panel cut out, 0172 is new rear bracket, 0173 is new front bracket bolted to old bracket, 0175 shows the fillers that cover up the fact that i did not paint anything
