Default Nice work

Broke c7

Well done, your 89 looks awesome!

I just picked up the same bike, thinking about trying what you did.

Would it be possible to strap a smaller battery in that stock location after the side is shaved off?

THANKS

it would have to be smaller than a sporty battery. if you are looking at putting 93 up bags on it and don't want to move the battery, i still have a 93 bag with the 89 notch grafted in it. if you are interested i don't have a lid for it and the holes were filled and re-drilled to where i needed them.

good luck on the modifications when you do them.

Default thanks

thanks for reply. after some more work, I cleared out alot of room under the seat. It had lots of wirring for the Cruise control and cb radio. After I removed that I have a big empty space. Im still getting her figured out, the previous owner wired in a second starter relay, the book only shows one?
I removed the tour pack, so now I only have blinker and tailights going to rear fender. Youre bike gave me some inspiritation.

THANKS
Without the cutout in the bag, the space left is wedge shaped, so while the bottom of the battery tray looks large, the space available at normal battery height is very small! Plenty of space to put in other stuff like electrics, but not a battery worthy of the name.

My battery tray has just arrived from Pinwall, although I have yet to size up fitting it. Bags are still in transit. With a 107" motor and a 2kW starter I need a beefy battery, so I will be keen to get in one as close to stock size as I can.

there is a lot of room once you get rid of that stuff isn't there?. i put a throttle lock screw back on so i still had that to use since the cruise is gone. I live in the middle of the prairies so throttle lock works well. I kept the tour pack and still use it when i ride with my daughter or girlfriend. it is not quick release since that was big money, but 2 screws and a bolt make it "quick enough" release, just a matter of minutes. I shaved all the lights from the t-pack so it is clean. i have a 1995 ( i think) third brake light off a GMC or Chevy astro van flipped upside down and mounted to the bottom of the t-pack. really makes it visible with 20 some LED's shining when i brake. this is just wired into the brake line with a 2 pin trailer harness.

Default second try

sorry not good at the pics.

one is a before of the 89 FLT
one after
the third is the same location on my 94 road king, basically seems to be same frame, I put an air horn (train sounding) in front of the battery. Im guessing that the battery tray for a 94+ touring would bolt right in? I havent made it that far yet.
