I just put one in my 98 fatboy yesterday and it's a pain in the ***! I also did all the seals in the trans and checked bearings I was that far into it anyway Just follow your manual for gear removal they need to come out so the shifter assembly can slide out it SUCKS! I talked with the dealer by me and they just did one on a 95 softail and the bill was around 750.00/7hrs
took me a little longer but cost WAY less

Hope it helps
Rob

7 hours was the tech sleeping for 4 of that. I just did one last Sunday on a 94 softail all new bearings new shifter and clutch I had 4 hours in it only because I had to go retrieve my clutch spring compressor. I hate when ppl borrow tools and I have to go get them back.

yeah, but you're a good friend to help them by letting them use your tools.

I'm in the middle of installing this. Those videos are what you should watch. Here's my incomplete write up. Will have assembly done this week and post it

Looks like you got the help you need, if not let me know. The gearset has to come out and then it is just a snap ring holding the shifter pawl in.
