I may be wrong here but that's why lots of Shovelhead guys go to the cv.
actually I think the mechanic did mention afterward there was no accelerator pump but earlier in the week said there was a leather one

I'm hoping someone can guide me on if a 44MM CV Carburetor and manifold from a 2002 88"b motor can be placed on my 80" EVO?

once my money seeds sprout I'll put something else on, I have a 3 piece intake, I guess shovel style?

thanks all
the intake hooks to fittings that bolt to the heads they are called compliance fittings

as far as switching carbs the one you have might be scrap metal. but the type of carb is not bad. if its in good working order its a lot easier to tune than a cv.
most ppl opt to switch to a cv to get rid of those junk compliance fittings also because it requires less adjustments for atmospheric change and a cv carb with the right mods can keep up with the demands of a big cube bike.

theres a few drawbacks to the cv the biggest one being throttle response yes it does have alright response but not great. another problem is the low speed circuit routing it doesn't take much to plug up. one tank of bad gas can ruin your weekend.

if I were you I would have the carb checked and cleaned by a professional that uses a sonic cleaner if they tell you its not worth saving. I would go with an S&S E sometimes simple is better.

Thanks for the replys, I got an hour on it yesterday, same report, I'll likely find another carb,

cant seem to find any info on the 88b setup working, found a shovel edlebrock on CL but enough posts here to think twice about it

somewhat thinking about pricing cam, pipes and carb to put some life into it, its a stock bike from 84 and messing with that is a tough call

Lots of people seem to like the S&S. I have no experience with them, but I can vouch for either a well-tuned Keihin CV, or the Mikuni HSR-42 (which I use).

I like the Mikuni because it's easy to tune and VERY forgiving. It also has great throttle response, and even decent mileage if set up well (default jetting is on the rich side for a stock motor-I suspect they're erring on the side of caution).

Lots of choices for air cleaners with the Mikuni, as any air cleaner that fits the CV carb can be fitted to the Mikuni as well. S&S you're pretty much locked into the S&S teardrop air cleaner (fine if that's the look you want).

there are no bad carbs for a Harley you just have to decide what will work good for you.
as far as easy to tune S&S carbs are the easiest.
but for performance im with you the mikuni takes the number one spot in my book. there is nothing better for throttle response than a mechanical flat slide carb. back in the 86 I took the flat slide carb off my quadzilla and put it on my dads shovel and from that point on I was sold on the flat slide.
as far as air cleaners go just about all that are worth using work with S&S, Mikuni and Keihin

That 44 is a tad big for what you want/need. A regular 40 mm cv will do fine on it..

If you can afford it, the S&S Shorty Super E kit at about $450 will make it run better than wasting time tinkering around with all the other suggestions. I know. Been there, Done that! If I could kick myself in the *** I would for wasting so much time before I finally got mine. The performance boost is unimaginable.
