Long story short version, turned 70, smacked a deer 200yards from home on my way back from Sturgis, sold my 11 SG, retired from riding after 56 years, couldn't stand it, found a cherry 97 RK with 37,000 miles on it and ended up here with you guys. First of all, I can't fix anything but have an MC Brother that can. I rode the bike home and l love it. No issues (150 miles). Good rubber, fresh clear oil, no leaks, idles smooth at 1000rpms. What would you look for? I can't find anything that does not work properly. Here is my vin, what can you tell by it? 1HD1FHR14VY621486
Any info would be appreciated. I am happy to have moved over to this forum from that "other" one. I will try not to be a pita but I was in the wrong line when they were handing out the tools. I have lived in the Keys for 40 years and I have a lot of local knowledge if any of you get down this way.
Welcome to nirvana, from the UK. Ride on and enjoy. Sounds as if you have an excellent bike and as time goes by we can help out, as and when you need it.
Welcome back to riding and congrats on the RK.
Very solid bike not to mention I have heard and agree with the saying. The RK is the best bang for the bucks HD has.
If ain't broke don't fix it.
This bunch is most always willing to help, ask away.
They sure have helped me in past
I hope I can ride still at that age. Congrats on your new ride. I believe the 96-98 RK's are one of the best HD ever made. You found a Jem. At 37k it really shouldn't need much except a little injector cleaner every now n then...ride on.....
dont believe them that year is a bomb BUT as luck would have it i am in the market for just that bike - hahhahahaha good luck dude and just dont go to sturgis and your be fine
i am not that far behind you and 1/2 my bikes are kick start as well as 1/2 my customers its how you feel about yourself not how many years you clocked
