First of all, I can't fix anything but have an MC Brother that can. I rode the bike home and l love it. No issues (150 miles). Good rubber, fresh clear oil, no leaks, idles smooth at 1000rpms. What would you look for? I can't find anything that does not work properly. Here is my vin, what can you tell by it? 1HD1FHR14VY621486
Any info would be appreciated. I am happy to have moved over to this forum from that "other" one. I will try not to be a pita but I was in the wrong line when they were handing out the tools. I have lived in the Keys for 40 years and I have a lot of local knowledge if any of you get down this way.

One of them little deer you see around Bahia Honda was it? The signs alone freaked me out when I rode down to Petersens Poker Run a coupla years back.

I loved Key West but jeepers dude....how do you guys cope with the heat!!!

Thanks to all who looked at my post. I feel like one of the family. No Spanners, it was not one of the Big Pine little bambies. I spend my summers up in Minnesota, and it was one of the 220lb bucks that love to jump out in front of you. Never saw him till the collision.

We become accustomed to heat and I leave every year in May and come back in November. The best of both worlds. Lucky me!
Peterson's Poker Run is a great time to enjoy Key West before we get over run with tourists.

I will take everyone's advice and ride the bike and squawk when and if something appears that needs attention.
I have bonded with this bike quicker than any I can remember. Two old farts riding into the sunset.

Cool Unknown History

a friend told me he knew a guy in Miami had a RK he needed to get rid of. I decided to drive up with my wife and some money and take a look. Turns out the guy is Colombian and his parents are sick and he must return to take care of them. His English was not perfect. They were packing. When I saw the bike I thought, this is to good to be true. I walked around it, no dents, not a scratch, no rust. He started it up, let it idle, few revs, and I asked him what he wanted for it. He asked for $6500 and I countered with $5300. We met at $5700. He produced a clear title and I rode it home. As I was getting ready to leave he asked me if he could take it for one last ride. While he was gone his wife told me how much he loved that bike, and she thought he would cry when he saw it go.
I assume it is stock, I never asked. I was very sure that anyone who took that care with the outside of the bike must have done the same to the engine. We will find out, won't we. Pix will appear soon. Thanks everybody for your interest. I tried calling him back to ask some history but he is gone. I do know he had owned the bike since 99.
