I'm new to this area of the forum. I've been riding dynas but recently acquired an fxr. I've seen a few bikes that have the newer style switches and was wondering if anyone knows how difficult it is. Is it plug and play or a little more involved? Is it even worth trying to swap? My bike is also the police model if it matters. Any help/advice is appreciated.

Its been 10yrs since I did mine, but a switch is a switch.. So, its not too big of a deal.. The colors were different and I seem to remember one switch had two wires going to it.. It doesn't ring a bell logically, at the moment, but again, I seem to remember running into something a bit strange.. All in all, pretty simple..
What year is your FXR? The reason I ask is there is a different wiring scheme depending on whether the bike has the old type turn signal flasher, or the later turn signal canceller module.
I can give you instructions for either type...

When I did my FXR, I used the late style module....Much better than a flasher inside the headlight.

I was gonna guess it was you or Tom84fxst that posted the color to color change with updates. I will try and Google and look for the thread in this or the Softail forum. The search function, dysfunction, is not awesome on the site...

Dudshep31,
I couldn't find the thread which may or may not exist. In any event it is a sincerely easy process to complete as you would just get your writing diagram and match existing to the newer colored wires from the switches. Ask Dan about help, he'll steer you right.
Good luck,
Tom
