Yeah I would take the carb off and give her a good clean out, sounds like a bit of water/bad fuel. Also check the fuel line, could be old and perished....cheap to replace.
Unfortunately there are no intake gaskets on an `89 or earlier, they used those lame butterfly type carbs and the infamous compliance fittings...
OP:
If you are still using the original butterfly type carb, it may be time to think about replacing it, rather then spend money for new compliance fittings, carb rebuild kit etc.
The guy before me put a screaming eagle carb on it in 2005. so not original. the rubber intake is 1989 though so it will go. Many thanks for the info. I'm gonna do all the things you guys have mentioned. Thanks again for the help. Will get back to ya
I put an S&S Super E on my 88 and it's worth every penny. The intake is far superior to the stock. I think that the carb is better in every way and easy to adjust and rejet.
I bought a 1998 flstc in 07 running rough.Took the s&s off to clean it and noticed a missing capscrew on the intake manifold on the front cylinder.Installed the capscrew cleaned the not very dirty carb then set the carb by the S&S videos on you tube and it ran fine.Haven't touched it since and still running fine.
