OK, so I have never had a EVO before and had issues as I bought the FLHS, switches all corroded up, poor contact on occasion so I managed to replace the base switch/harness assemblies with no issues and all is good save the carb a Keihin CV that when works is great.
So the old machine had a load of old gas, soured and the carb would leak terribly with the gas left on so I bought small parts and went thru the unit. Starts fine, runs great, idle is a bit low but I'll get to that and after it sits for a few minutes off the drain tube gets a sputtering drip like the fuel in the bowl is venting/vaporizing off. Normal?
Will leave a small puddle after 10-15 minutes then quits, slows a lot if shut off gas. Typical?
I just went thru something similar to this last week. I bought a Jamie or James, something like that rebuild kit for my '91 Softail that had been sitting for years. In the kit was a baggie with the new needle . On the baggie was a label that had been added over the regular label showing a needle with a crooked end, and saying if your new one looked like that contact the mfg. for a replacement, it would leak. WTF??? Rather than make sure I got a good part they want me to check it out & see? They have a known problem and are too f'ing lazy to fix it?
So mine was crooked, I put it in & it leaked. Brand new kit. I was trading the bike in & didn't have time to deal with it.
That's some serious bullsh.. my friends.

Yes on all points, needle was inspected prior to install, old one had started to decay and had been a severe leaker new one not age hardened or offset, plastic float was verified as not sinking. Float setting was at .415(allowable .413-.450). Been a wrench since 1975 so know what to look for and where to clean, used a plastic bristle brush inside the seat are to clear the varnish buildup. Is fine until it sits after running and warmed up then shut off for a few minutes then starts lightly spitting and bubbling at the drain tube. Will take it back down and set the float lower by a few .000 and try again, will double check the seat and seat surface.
Last year I rebuilt my S&S and it still came out the over flow so I purchased a new needle (brass) not the aluminum one that came with the kit and installed it and problem gone. Do not use aluminum if y have it....
