It may just need some good usage. The clutch plates may have rusted some sitting for 3 years. I've used harley primary fluid. I also have used atf type f. Currently it has formula plus from harley. The type of clutch also has an effect on fluid type. I know Barnett recommends different than Harley. I've never used 20/50 in it though.

The best thing that I have found for my evo is the primary oil from HD, non-synthetic. I tried type F ATF and, though it worked well on my 1991 FLSTC it didn't do as well on the 1988, FLHTC. BTW, if you decide to go with ATF you must use something like Type F. Don't use Dextron Mercon. They have too many additives that will work against you. The HD brand primary oil really works well. I always keep a couple of extra quarts around because I always seem to start wrenching when HD is closed and I have a ride the next day. My life is a series of bad decisions.

Except that HD doesn't sell primary oil anymore.

Believe it or not, hd oil is low quality Sunoco with wear scars as much as double than leading brands of mc oil, that being said, depending on the company that had the lowest bid for the hd label for the new contract. Your hd oil may be a higher quality if Sunoco was under bid by say amsoil or valvoline, castrol. Harley does not manufacture oil.
Does it cool and lubricate? Of course, the best choice.....no

Check your clutch release bearing. I had similar symptoms and found it lying in pieces in the bottom of the side cover.

Well, whatever it is I bought it at the dealer and I put it in the primary and it works good.
I look at the bottle when I get home. Could be Mr. Davidson's beer pee bottle.

Did you ever check your primary chain tension? I didn't see that anywhere in this thread. If it's too tight that may be why you have trouble getting it in neutral.

The Haydon is the primary chain tensioner , not sure how tight its suppose to be , theres about 3/8 inch flex at the top center in the chain then you can push it farther against the spring pressure of the tensioner

Their instructions say 5/8th of an inch between the bottom of the shoe and the top of the plates.

This is what I found works best in my primary. My bike "seems" finicky with anything else. If they have stopped making it I'll need to be creative in the not too distant future. These came from the dealer six months ago.
