I cant seem to adjust it out , carefully set up as per manual , clunks in to gear , hard to get neutral and can feel it pulling with clutch in ever so slightly but its definitely dragging . new to me 1998 RK 5 speed 40,000 miles
Dave, my bike is earlier than yours, but the process I use is to adjust at the clutch as per the book, but then take out most of the cable slack, when setting the in-cable adjuster.
One possibility is that your bike has an aftermarket device installed, to lighten the clutch lever action, which are infamous for 'stealing' spare clutch adjustment. A dragging clutch is not unknown in Evos circles, one antidote being to snick into neutral while still rolling. That doesn't solve things in every situation, but is a natural action after 25 years of Evo riding in my case!.
Yeah, make sure you don't have one of those "easy clutch" things. I put one one the sporty and it cost me a clutch. Next, after everything is adjusted per the book including the clutch and the primary chain, change your primary oil to Mobil 1 ATF.
further inspection finds an Haydon M6 chain tensioner that seems to be working OK , im leaning toward clutch plates and oil , bike set for 3 years before i got it and ive put about 500 miles on it , PO used 20-50 revtec oil and it was just changed when i picked it up , is ATF thinner ? which is what i want
Thanks
Dave
