Default Poo happens I guess.....

The weather was great here in Up State today so I took the bike out for the first time in around 18 months or so. Have to say that it ran beautifully.

There I was cruising up the road, minding my own business, not hurting anyone and just enjoying the feeling. Got into our small town and stopped at a light with a town cop next to me. We exchanged looks, as you do, the lights turned and I took of only to see the cop follow me instead of making the turn he's indicated. On the other side of town the inevitable happened, bright flashy lights in my mirrors!

I hadn't done a damn thing wrong, nothing naddah, zilch so couldn't figure out why this cop was pulling me over. That confusion was soon cleared up - my Inspection Sticker was out of date, only by 6 months mind you but out of date none the less.

Fortunately, being a small town, I was able to talk my way around the problem and headed straight to my local (argh) HD Dealership for an inspection. So much for a nice relaxing first of the season ride

At least you could talk your way out of yours.
I got one once that was a year and a half out of date.

You do know you don't have to take your bike to the dealership to have it inspected.
You can take it to any inspection station.
Or at least you can down here.

Sounds like one of those DUH moments we can have from time to time.
So did ya get the inspection done ?

Yep but Inspection Stations around here are a little scarce so the HD is convenient if nothing else and I wasn't going to trip around finding another one under the circumstances.

Definitely a DUH moment, was so keen to get back on and ride I didn't give the Inspection a second thought.

Did I get the Inspection done - oh yeah straight away and, as I expected, not an issue other than a rear light globe that was corroded and kept flickering Got a feeling that is why the cop stopped me in the first place, maybe it was out at the wrong time.

Not just any station; has to be one that is certified to do motorcycles. Probably because they are "supposed" to ride the bike to check the brakes, though I remember reading that a demo will suffice.
Nobody ever rides my suicide/jockey to check it out, though.

Glad we don't have to deal with that stuff here in Michigan.

I have never had any trouble at any inspection station around my house.
I didn't know there was a special inspection for bikes.

I'll be glad next year when I can get rid of that inspection sticker!!!!!!!!!!

RoadStar,

Around here in New York we have to get an inspection done of our bikes every 12 months. Basic stuff, brakes, lights, that sort of thing; more a pain in the butt than anything but I guess it's another way the State gets a few extra dollars.

Tom,

Yeah I know but as said, this is a small town and everyone knows everyone else, including the cops so they tend to be a little more lenient on the "locals", especially if you come up with a real good excuse like ..."Oh crap, I forgot!" and say it with a smile.

I've been living in the US for almost 8 years and have been riding here for the past 4 years, back and forth up and down, interstate etc BUT only got a licence for here at the end of last year. The Town Chief of Police and I talked a lot, especially at the gas station where I'd fill up for a ride and not once did he ask about a licence. Actually, the guy who owns the gas station turned around and said "I didn't know you had a licence" in front of Dave (The Chief!), at which point I thought I was knee deep in it. All I said was I'd been riding for years and left it at that. Dave just kinda grinned and walked away. Spose it helped that he, Dave, is my wife's cousin though
