harold - set the timing with the static light and forget it - all the rest is not going to give you or change anything you can feel or see riding the bike
we only move the timing on a dyno spin as the rest is all in what one could do, if you have nothing better to do and like cleaning up oil spray everyplace left of the bike
I just rev mine to about 2k rpm on tach is that not sufficient enough to have the timing advanced for tdc with dialback. I got 32 degrees with lite on Ultima just going out.
My buddy has a bit of a suped up shovel and uses an Ultima ignition , he has a toggle switch in a reachable area, when he wants to play hard he simply hits the toggle to ground the voes so its always advanced and ready to go.

32 is max advance on curve 3. 34 is max on curve 1 and 2.
I believe I am set for curve 2 on the switches but will double check , so are you saying I should be tweating the back plate just a bit more to get 34 degrees?

If you grounded voes per the sheet and hit 1500 rpms on curve 2 you should be at 34. If that is your ifnition, I believe it is. What John said is right I think you just set static on them then you should be dead nuts on the timing. Id check static first make sure your exactly at TDC when you do it and of course check your switch first if you're on 3 you're dead on already

Exactly what I did. Static timed and use the most aggressive curve on the ign. that doesn't ping with premium. Runs well.
Seems like some people use a timing light & some just use the static. Thanks for all the feedback & being as **** as I am about my bike, I will try the dial back method that Dale mentioned & thanks to Kevin for putting up the schematic & showing me where he ground the voes. Mine is just like his. Looked it up in my FSM. Hell, I spent 30 minutes on the phone with tech support with Dynatech & they couldnt tell me where to ground. I know its a simple thing, but I'm a machinist, not a electrician. I'll let ya know how it turns out.
I don't necesarily use the dynamic timing as a habit, I just wanted to see what my bike was running at at where the timing module was set to. But now I know the marks in the primary side work well.
