Id check static first make sure your exactly at TDC when you do it and of course check your switch first if you're on 3 you're dead on already
No I didn't ground the voes , just turned the throttle upto about 2k rpm. I've yet to open up the timing plate to see what curve I'm on but I will this morning. Been busy getting it back together.

So you're good you're dynamic timing check matched what it should be. Flip that to 2 or 1 and see how you like it. No need to use the timing light again.

I did when I checked to see what it was at. Not really sure how it all worksbut after switching it to 2 it seemed to have a bit more go.

I'd start with curve 1 and if you get any pinging switch to 2. Unless you're lugging it loaded down 1 should be fine. If you're happy with 2 though let it be and ride.

So is the whole idea of the curves for pinging or am I reading this wrong?

That is correct.
Start at one and if you get pinging go to two if it persists go to three if is still pinging in four you have other problems.

FWIW, my Twin Tec 1007 ignition uses higher numbers for more aggressive curves. Thought I'd throw that in so future readers would know that it's different from module to module.
