Remember, that little red light (oil pressure) is on the same circuit as the ignition. The ignition switch divides the power coming to it from the main circuit breaker (under the seat on mine) into three circuits (ignition, night time lamps, and accessories).

If wiggling the wire under the switch makes the light go out, the ignition is likely going out with it too. Remove the switch and check the underside for a broken contact or switch "pole" (the little tab where the wire is screwed on). They're riveted in place, and I've seen the rivets break. It happened to me.

This is what I would do at this point.
1 Have the battery load tested.
I'm still having a hard time believing a good battery will read 0 under load.
2 Grab a volt meter and start tracing the wiring back to see where you have good voltage for the oil light.

A junk yard battery wouldn't read zero!!
If you decide to change your ignition switch, consider going with an electronic ignition switch as I did when mine **** the bed,way more reliable about the same price. (J&P CYCLE)
Also smoother action....

The red light isn't there to tell you the bike is on. It's the oil pressure light.

With the ignition on and the motor not running the light should be on.

Default check previous repairs first.

Determine that the battery is servicable.
Check the ignition switch for proper operation.
Check all battery connections.
If all is well , check wiring system as described in forum .

Guys Noob ask the same exact question over in the electronics section, he is not giving you the full story.
I ask this question.

How did you splice the wires together, twist and tape?
Until you go through all the wires and repair I would not ride it farther than you want to push it home.

His answer
ya twist and tape, I looked at all the other wires that were around that area and they seemed not broken but just maybe old. no other wires had been split open but they're just tough to bend and such

Twist and tape is asking for a walk home. Learn to solder and shrink wrap or find some one who does.
And you need to pull the tank to do a good inspection repair.

I don't think he liked my answer and he kept pursuing it over here.
So until he fixes the breaks in the wires properly us trying to trouble shoot is foolish.
