Default 1st time on springer

Today I test drove a 1988.5 near original softail that I seen on road side. #145 of 1450 ------- 85th anniversary collectors edition. He insisted that I take off on it,uuuummmm ok....
21k miles. Would like to add a Springer to my garage, if I could only spend $5,000 on something that I don't really need but WANT. I must say that my bike felt stronger though, but it started and ran great.

My son and I rebuilt a 91' Springer last summer, it took just about two months. I must say he was proud of the bike, and I was proud of him.

5K? Sounds cheap for a Springer, if it's nice.

That's a great price for a springer. Heck the engine and fork alone are worth that. I'd say you could flip it or part it for more money.

But it'd be a shame. I love my springer, they ride great and always start a conversation.

I'd say jump on that if you have the means.

Sounds like a great deal OP. I consider a bike like that a rolling savings account. Maybe even an investment as you could probably sell for profit some time.

Did you happen to replace the steering head bearings? I need to do mine and I wonder how difficult a job it is.

Yeah I think it's well worth the money, very rear bike, looked it up online also. I like how they mark the production number on the dash. It appears only seat and bars are not original, motor is untouched. Just some flaking going on with the blacked out motor, few chips in the original paint which only came one way( no paint options ) for that bike.

Hrdtail on the heritage springer forum just did it. Some tips here and you could ask him questions.

Just got my first springer yesterday. 2011 Crossbones. I don't think I'll ever own another bike.

Changing the neck bearings can be tricky follow the manual. I've seen springs shoot across the shop almost taking out someone's face.
