Came back from vacation, new set of heads and gaskets had arrived. Started assembly after surviving the return to work and beat down, CNC machining to cast was a rough transition in most areas that need work.
Pulled the valves of old Sachs ported heads and did a mild version of porting following Sachs work, he had them opened up. Satisfied with the port transition and chamber cleanup installed the heads with the engine once again sending out the unmistakable deep exhaust sound of leave this one alone.
Although installing the heads in the bike was a pain in the a$$, with Mike at Ultima standing behind his product and John Sachs in my corner was a booster shot to overcome the head install. Overall picture is there are still some good businessmen in the Harley world

. You did that port work? Pretty good job. Still have mine on the stand looking at it.....slammed here with hot rod work. But guess I better go find some pistons and get going. Thanks for update.

Off Sachs port work like I mentioned, those guys know what they are doing and you just don't start carving heads without guidelines.
One thing that I'm liking with the new heads is they have not been milled and at stock compression, the bumped compression will allow the bigger cams to work better but this engine will actually start without compression releases on, the bumped compression was rough on the starter even with compression releases.
Hopefully many miles ahead with over sized Briggs and Straten

Briggs......blew up one of those this week on ALKY. LOL. SO Briggs and Straton not a favorite of mine this week. Lol. Oh and don't worry well aware what is involved porting heads.......most guys I see doing them at home end up worse flow than they started. I don't have time to sit with a flow bench for weeks .... Next time around I will go that route

Pistons are .020 but stock compression out of the box, calculator put it at 130" with the overbore. Sachs took some off the first set of heads when he ported them, like a said, like the way it starts now.
Had to drill 2 holes down thru the boxed section of frame to take the rocker bolts out, altered 2 allen wrenches to get the 4 lower rocker cover box bolts out. Had to bend a extension magnet in a 90 degrees to put the lower rocker cover bolts back in and one little turn at a time 4 bolts
If this engine lets go it will go for 32 cents a pound and the baby Briggs 89" comes off the shelf.

I could not be ballsy enough to drill not one but two holes in my frame. Ugh.

For every 1 lb of mass loss is horsepower gained, 2 drilled holes put the engine at 140.003 horsepower. Holes drilled are in the largest boxed section of the frame, not scared at all, only thing that scares me is slowing the white bike down with a curve coming up fast
bummer on the meltdown, but good on Ultima for making it right.

you ever get that thing on a dyno? i keep putting off actually dialing mine in completely (its close, but I bet theres still more in it), partially because it'll still pucker me up pretty good through the first couple gears.
