Default Speedo bleeding oil across face

My 95 RK has started bleeding what looks like oil across the speedo face. It looks like it is coming up and out the hole where the needle spindle passes through the face. Then it runs down over the digital odometer display.

I'm pretty sure it is oil and not condensation. Left it out in the sun a few times etc and no sign of condensation on the glass etc. (And I rode Brit bikes for enough years to be pretty sure I know an oil leak when I see one!)

Anyone come across this before? I am having a hard time thinking how an electronic speedo can leak oil. Unless it is some kind of oil damper to stop the needle flickering??

Any known fix for this, other than new speedo?

In NZ we have a place that does Speedos for boats, cars and bikes....there must be somewhere in Aussie that does similar work?

I am quite curious about this myself as I just took a 95 Electra Glide Standard in trade and the speedo portion of the "break box" is barely readable and looks very dark. I actually went the route and bought a used cluster to replace it.

Anyone else seen this?

The original speedometer on my '94 Softail bled oil onto the dial. It then boiled off and condensed on the inside of the glass, making a mess. I think Nippon Seiki (they made the Speedos for Harley back then) over-oiled the mechanism.

After the speedo broke, I replaced it with an accessory speedometer. This one hasn't had a problem in 7 years.

I'm thinking I might just open up the speedo and clean it up myself. Easy enough go get those bezels on and off, usually. I was just wondering if it was something had ruptured int here that signals the upcoming demise of the speedo working parts.
