Default Electra Trade Question

A newbie here, so if I am in the wrong place feel free to yell at me and send me packing.

Question is I have a chance to trade my 09 Nightster for a 1990 Ultra Classic Electra Glide. It is not the cleanest bike but over great shape. It runs strong and it just recently had the top end done. It has 60k miles.
I think its a no brainer but wonder how that first gen fuel injection is on that bike. thoughts?

Welcome to the forums. The 1990 ultra is not fuel injected at all. It has an old fashion carb on it. I would ask the owner if the bike has the stock carb or if has been upgraded.

I have no idea what your Nightster is worth, but for a point of reference I just bought a 90 EG, showroom clean with 10k miles for $7500. I probably paid a little more than I should have.

Thoughts huh?????????

First thought is that any big twin is an improvement over a sportster.
Second thought is that a '90 shouldn't have EFI!!!

Can you post pictures of it?????????/

Good Bike Should be a carb rather than FI.

09 nightster for a 90 EG

Even trade ?????

There might be some questions to be asked.

For reference I paid $5K for my stock 1991 EG with 36K miles. That was right at BB value for my area. If the top end was indeed done (receipts?) and it runs strong, I would say it's a fairly decent trade. Do your due diligence on the value of your Nightster. My 1st impressions are you would be getting more of a bike in the end. Mileage wouldn't scare me, I mean it is 25 yrs old.

I will add tho the model years from 1989-1991 are hard to find decent upgrades for beyond the mechanical. LIke adjustable floor boards, aftermarket seats, fairings and things like that. Seems those years were more of prototyping and R&D. From 1992 or 1993 and on things get a little more standardized.

Default Electra Trade Question

Am I the only one that thinks the Nightster is worth more? You should be able to cash out at a dealership and get more for it than you need to buy the 90 if it's not in great shape. If it's in need of some work you'd be better off having some cash in your pocket. Have you looked into just unloading it and buying the glide cash instead?

I bought a 1994 for $6,500 in May of 2014 with 55,900 miles on it, and I just turned 61,000 last week. It's been running strong, and no major challenges. As a few have said, getting parts or upgrades for anything older than 1997 is a challenge, but also part of the adventure.

If you like the bike, it sounds like it would be a good fit.

I think the nightster is worth more on paper, but sportsters are hard to sell in today's market...so you would probably have to sell it below book value to sell it at all. That said, a 1990 that is not a low mileage museum piece...it worth about $4500 tops IMO. So I don't think I would do an even trade for it.
