I had oil leaking from what appeared to be where the jug and lower case meet behind the lifter block. After revealing the engine it still leaked so I took it all apart again to find this Crack. My bike is a 98 and I thought this was only an issue on 94s and older. Lucky me I guess. Is the case fixable or am I in the market for new cases
cheap fix that works - go to a model shop they sell cars boats what ever - they have brass tubes 5/16 / 3/8 - 6 inches long and find the one that fills the hole and is snug- clean area very very well then with green ( wicking - loctite ) heat the area dont melt it freeze the brass tube tap it into the oil return hole cut flush / or leave a post and install the jug over it drilling might also have to happen to jug
NOTE - i have drilled the hole to have a stop at the botton with a under size bit so it fits up snug and wont fall into the crankcase - did this work yes but the guy at the time traded it in so i do not know what happened

3 things:
The bad case years were 89-92 and
The area affected on the 89-92 cases was not the area where yours has cracked and..
If the 89-92 cases haven't cracked by 50,000 miles they probably never will.
