G'day gang, Just trying to figure out a problem with a set of Delkron cases. Have bought arebuilt Evomotor to throw into my 89 Electra-Glide but there is a threaded hole in the cases beside the oil pump. Anyone know what this is for? The motor is a late Evo (I think the guy said it was a 97 or 98). Just want to get it right so the old girl can be put back on the road. Hope somone can help me out here I don't want to feel like a goose when I talk to the bike shop.
Thanks Skip, Tried that a little while ago and got no reply from the ignorant baaastards. Will try it again though thanks for the jog. Did it through their old website not the new fandangled one they've got now. May be it got lost in the changeover (here's hoping).
If it's a Pipe Plug Threadded Hole just to the inside of the Oil Pump Mounting Surface,( and maybe down a little),it'sa crank case vent hole. S+S ships many of there Evo Style motor's with a barbed fitting in that hole for a 3/8" id vent hose in that spot. If your not going to use it, ( and you might want to depending on how your older Glide was setup for crank case venting), just plug it, or better yet, put a barbed fitting on it with a 90 degree bend, facing up, and then plug the barbed fitting with one of them little boots they make, or a piece of hose with a bolt in it, and a couple of clamps. That way if you decide to use it later, you just need to run a vent hose off the allready in place barbed fitting. I have a 96" S+S Im using on a chop project I'm building, and I just have the barbed fitting with the little boot over it to block it off. I'm not using the extra Crank Case Vent because my oil bag is well above my oil pump, and for some reason it's not usually required for that type oil bag setup.
Now on your Electra Glide, you may well need the extra vent. Not sure why that is, but that's what I know from reading the S+S Tech sheets that came with my motor.
Hope this helps.
Thanks heaps Tim and MikeyB will get a beather for it. The motor is a breathe through the heads motor unlike my old motor which had the breather out beside the oil pump and into the air filter. Will run an additional breather and give it a go.
It’s the vent for bottom breather engines. In other words if your heads don’t have breather ports it’s used as a breather. Simply put fitting on and run a hose. If you have breather heads than plug it. Your 89 original engine is a bottom breather setup

After almost 13 years, I'd say you are a little slow to the party.
