I would like to know cause I always felt like the gears rev out quick especially at top speed
If your bike really does rev up like that then you don't have a trans issue. All 4 and 5 speeds have a direct 1:1 top gear. What you describe is down to overall gearing, in other words the primary or rear belt drive. What tooth count do you have on the compensator? That is the easiest thing to change, if anyone has done mods in the past.

If you are serious about going to a 6-speed then now seems to be a good time to make that change, rather than chasing parts around in circles, as you are at present.

You can check the model year of your bike on the H-D website, just go to the Owners tab and register your bike's VIN.

The bike and vin is def a 89. I just don't know what someone did to the tranny that nothing fits. I though the bike was all stock when I bought it from the original owner

go to a local indy he will have in stock all the correct ones - bring what you have from the bike not what you bought to match up
If you are keeping your tranny this is what you should do.

Yeah. That's what I am doing today. Hopefully they can match it up. I don't have too much faith at the dealer

Experience tells me that a dealer can do nothing for you unless you have a part number.

Indy is a way better choice for matching parts.

Also, many aftermarket gasket sets can cover multiple years and models. There will be stuff left over that you can't use. Don't know if that is the case here, but it could be. When you go to the Indy, take the James set as trading material.

Dealer no help. I need help! I gotta find this seal so I can put this damn bike back together. The inner diameter is 2 1/4". The outer is the oem 89 size seal. I'm at work. I'll get the micrometer on it when I get home. What freaking seal do I need? This is ridiculous

Just find a large bearing distributor in your area and take the seal there...they will either have it, or can get it in a day.

You can identify the correct part number for every iddy diddy bit of your bike, by using any of the on-line parts websites! Are you using the correct H-D part number? Any dealer worthy of that name should be able to supply. Alternatively an auto parts store or bearing supplier may be able to supply, if you take the old seal with you, as these things are universal, not Harley-specific.
