So I went to start my 87 Sporty for the first time in a year. Fire up no problem whatsoever except it's spewing oil from my carb? I let it run and warmed it up and even took it around the block assuming that there was oil in the crankcase from sitting for awhile. She's still leaking out but not as much as in the beginning. I have an S&S carb on it. Thoughts????
Your Sporty is letting you know how unhappy it is that you neglected it for a year. Most likely your motor is "sumped", that is, the oil in the oil tank leaked past the check valve and was in the sump instead of the tank when you started it.
Thanks Uncle G so will it eventually pass?? FYI no neglect it's my first born had it since 89 and have done a lot of work to it.
I store it in a heated garage and had my battery on a tender. I've had her sit for longer than that and this has never happened.
Yes you are correct. I started it up again and it seems to have stopped. Cleaned my air filter and will clean the bike too, hope this will make my old girl happy and forgive me!! Lol
Thanks again Uncle G for your input!!
If it does it again, quickly check the oil level in the tank, which will probably be lower than it should be. Do nothing, except allow the engine to run, when the level will be magically restored! That will also confirm if it is sumping.
