I tried to upload some pics of the powder coating but something did not work right. I'm not going to blame it all on operated failure but that could be.
Question for you guys: this race tech kit comes with a spring I can use to lower the front end by 1 inch. What will that do for the bike overall? I am running 12 inch progressive 440's on the rear now.
Thanks for the help.

Default It depends

Hey- i am not sure what kit you are talking about, but normally the springs are the same length and the stiffness (rate- determined by weight & ability) and the spacer length is what "raises" or "lowers" your bike. If you like the low stance and want a great ride and a responsive bike you will get it- you may, however run into clearance issues. Keeping the bike leveled - front and rear, will give you the best handling. They will send you the correct front springs to match your bike setup and riding ability. Normally it is customary to fill out a geometry form downloaded from their website and then talk to your rep or tech about your size, ability and riding style. You can have a low bike that handles- they just need to know what you want. 👍🏻
Let me know- I'm ordering soon for the FXRP project.

When you order your kit it will come with a 2 inch top out spring. You can use this spring to lower your bike 1 inch, if you prefer a 2 inch drop use both, the original 1 inch spring and the supplied 2 inch spring. If you do not want to lower your bike and leave it like stock height use the original 1 inch spring only.
The top out spring is under the damper rod, the fork spring is on top, 2 different animals and purposes.

So my question is still what effect would there be on the handling of the road king being lowered by 1 inch from stock? Would it be negligible?

Terrible thing, just terrible. Some more chromed parts came loose with a wrench and ended up in the back of my car. They must have known I was going to go pick up parts from the powder coating shop this afternoon.

I didn't know that- I had never looked at any RT kits for anything but Dyna and FXR - I see the kits you are speaking of, and I am sure you will get a good handling bike. The kits I have purchased don't have the lowering top spring. I ordered my rears Monday (14.5") and gold valves. Have to get seals, oil, ect. tomorrow. Let me know what you decide and how it changes your handling.
Thanks

I'll answer ya this way. Don't lower a bike unless it is necessary. Do you want to look at it or do you want to ride it. The necessary part comes in if you can stand a stride the bike flat footed and there(at least) is an inch to an inch and a half between your butt and the seat (not your junk) your good to go. Adjust the damping of suspension, change or replace to your liking from there.

I'm a short legged **** and haven't been on an RK I'd need to lower yet.

Just my way of doing things
