Pingle makes a conversion kit, like this (add a petcock): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Harley-Tank-...377a0e&vxp=mtr

Not really. The 98 is going be a bit more involved. Pingel makes a kit to block one fuel line and an adapter for the fuel line to accept a petcock. Make sure to put the petcock in the rear hole, or you will have clearance issues with the horn bracket. The hardest part of this job is cutting/ drilling hard lines out of the tank.

When I converted my '98 ultra, I got rid of the ECM all together and installed an Ultima Programmable Ignition after hearing a lot of great feedback about them here on the forums, a new coil, and had to make a simple wiring harness to go to the coil, power the ign, and VOES. It's not a difficult thing. I had issues with timing, because I had a switch set wrong on the ignition, had I noticed it sooner it would have been a breeze.

I think I still have my very basic wiring diagrams in the barn if you need them. I can take a pick and PM or post them

I know that I am late to the party, but if you are still looking to the the bike running as it is I would check 3 things:

1) Crank Position Sensor connector, the barrel shaped connector located behind the right side cover.
2) Fuel pump fuse, which is not an inline fuse as someone else stated. That is an inline connector. The fuse is located behind the right side cover.
3) If both of those are good then check power to the fuel pump. If you have 21v going in then the pump is probably toast.

Everything Im reading says drilling the tank for the petcock is the hardest part. What makes it so difficult?

I would wholeheartedly appreciate the wiring diagram. It is what is causing the biggest heartburn for me so far.

Jaspers thread is great, the main thing that differs is the wiring, depending on what ignition you are going to use and what coil you use with it.

the hard lines in the tank go from the bungs on the bottom of the tank all the way up to the very top of the tank. You have to cut them pretty low to use your whole tank. I ended up using a 9/16 drill bit from the outside, being extremely careful not to bugger up the threads on the tank bungs. I found drilling with the 9/16 bit, the lines will come off just at the welds (about 3/4 of an inch from the bottom of the tank.

My bike was mystique green, if I could have found a later model tank in that color I would have bought it, the later model tanks mount the same and have no hard lines in them.

To the Op:

Do you know what ign and coil u will use?
