I'd appreciate it if you share with us and briefly describe the issues you were having with your single-fire system.
I had the same Crane coil as you posted a picture of. And one of the Crane (can't recall which one) ignition systems. I was constantly loosing spark or missing intermittently. I will admit I just got tired of chasing problems and went back to dual fire with a stock coil and a DYNA S ignition system with a premium roller bearing advance system. Problems ended for me.

Thanks for the reply!
If I don't get satisfaction with my new coil I'll follow your lead back to the dual-fire system.
Just for your info, I just returned from my garage where I knew I still had the box the Crane coil came in. It is part # 8-3001
Thanks perki48, I certainly appreciate your input.
Hope things are going well for you up in God's country... I lived in Seattle from '83 - '88. Got to spend a weekend in Coeur d'Alene once. Lovely country, really miss the PNW...
We learned how to make hash browns in Coeur d'Alene on our Great Road Trip in '87 (>8K miles). Took a "short cut" through to Washington on some dirt road for 20 or 30 miles. Beautiful country.
I have not heard good things about Accel products in the past decade or so. I hope your new coil works out. If I had to go with a new ignition, I would go with the Dyna or Ultima private label version, a HD coil (or near as I can get) and waste spark ("Dual fire?" where both plugs fire at the same time.)
Have the same Crane Coil (8-3001) in my Fatboy. Never had any issues with it and I have over 75K miles with this coil. I did remove the stock chrome coil cover. Sometimes when the bike would vibrate, the chrome cover would hit the primary hookup nuts and short out.
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I'm sure the coil is bad, kept losing the rear cylinder after warm up, then finally wouldn't fire at all. I put in a cheap coil, along with new wires and plugs in Aug, and now 500 miles later, there's no fire to the rear cylinder, again. I ordered an Accel Super Coil from Amazon a couple days ago. Hope I'll get a little more life out of it than the last one. I'll also check with S&S as you suggested.
What ignition do you have? Crane HI-4 cone ignitions were famous for dropping a cylinder...mine would work for a month, then drop a cylinder...then start working again....need to check the coil with a meter.
