Well they do sound like someone shaking a metal garbage can full of doorknobs.....

I had an 05 TC Electra glide for a summer an just didn't like the weight of it around town an maneuvering it. I like the smooth power of the engine, if I kept it I was either going gear drive or just adding cams an replacing the cam chain tension pads. I'd change those pads before 30K to be safe. The 99-02 had forged bottom ends so they are considered the strongest bottom ends. Don't get an 06 I heard they had some one off stuff like a cat in one pipe. A gear drive 02 would be bulletproof IMO.

I would assume the Shovelhead guys didn't like the "new EVO" when it came out too....

I think it doesn't quite work out like that as the Evo was considerably more reliable and now, sometimes, it seems like engineering standards are dropping back again, but they didn't like 'Evo riders' because all of a sudden you didn't need to be time served mechanics with a bag of tools to run one and it opened up "the sport" to a whole load of new non-initiates. A bit of a generalization, but with elements of truth to it. There was grumblings about the "new breed".

Now we're just all grateful for the "RUBs" as they called them, or should be, for leaving behind a load of good quality, low mileage, perfectly adequate transportation, and saving the company.

So are you saying, that 'Evo riders' have now become the grumpy old and jealous reactionaries? It really does not take specialist skills to keep an old Evo running, it amazes me how little things have really progressed in 30 years and how well a 30 year old bike can hold its own, only a little bit of knowledge and skills in finding stuff to keep them running. The real argument in their favor is economic.

How are they perceived by riders who have only come to "the sport" post-Twin Cam? Are they looked upon like Shovels or Pans yet?
