Default Winter Project

Hey guys, I don't post on here much but have been a member for awhile. I have a 97 RK I bought last December. I got a good deal on it but noticed when we started riding that it was smoking. It has 33000 miles now and I'm still hoping to get a few good rides in, I've noticed it has developed a leak where the block is split. So I am pulling the motor this winter and rebuilding also fixing any other problems and some upgrades. As far as the motor goes I know I'm going to have a 5 angle valve job done, possible port and polish not sure if that is really needed. I want to replace the pistons and up my compression to 10.1 not sure which ones to go with. It supposedly has a crane fireball cam in which I want to change out to an Andrews ev27. Can I get some input on where else I need to do some work while the motor is out? I will get some current pics posted. I would like to put an s&s super E but not sure the budget is going to allow that, I have had really good performance with my cv carb and the cv performance kit.

I don't think a 27 is the best choice for that bike.
I think a 13 would do you better.

That show needs some go, nice bike there!

Get someone with gobs of experience like Hillside Cycle to do your headwork, tell them what you have in mind, and they can recommend and set you up with the correct compression ratio and type of headwork that works your cam,
it all has to match, or you end up with poor performance or a ping monster.

They'll get you the most reliable performance for your dollar and put a big smile on your face.

Naaaa, that's a wussy cam, with headwork, Hillside's W6h combo would be killer and reliable.

If your going to use a 13, just drop it in and call it a day.

That's the way I see it.
That high lift cam will require some extra work and parts under the rocker boxes. That is certainly a nice looking ride, btw.

Thanks guys, I wasn't sure on which cam to run so this is a big help. I heard the ev46 would be a good cam also. I have a local shop that does head work and has a really good reputation. As far as compression goes how much will going to 10.5.1 make a difference? Does anyone have any recommendations on the carb?

I have a cv and s&s super-e abd prefer the super e but if you're looking to allocate funds to other items than that cv is certainly capable. Rough guidelines are anything over 100hp then you're looking at 45mm and over carburetors. Don't overlook the Mikuni 42hsr, it is a really well put together item.
Keep this build going, we're awesome at spending your money.
