Downshifting to make a pass is normal. What speed and RPMs are we talking about?

With a stock motor it is.
With a built up motor you shouldn't have to.

Disagree. But it all depends on the speed and the revs. And your expectations of how much you should get from a roll on.

It's typical to downshift from 5th, Don't forget you didn't bore or install higher comp pistons. All you did was change the cc of the heads also I don't think you did any porting or bigger valves, did you?. Do you know what the combustion chamber is in cc's? Also what head gasket did you use? Once I know all that I can make a better educated statement.

One more thing, do you know where the pistons are sitting in the hole...?

I figured somebody would know the answer to that, so the Evo only had the 4 speed for a couple years. Anyone have any input on the carb tuning?
