Okay everyone. I have a CV carb question. Normally I can solve these on my own but this one has me stumped. Not my bike but a buddies 01 WG (I know not an EVO but I trust you guys). Here is what has been done to it. Stock TC and stock air cleaner. Only mod done are the V&H long shots WITH the baffles in. When he got the bike the carb had NEVER been touched. It was popping in the pipes and of course coughing through the carb. Mixture plug not even drilled out. Same owner with only 9K miles.
Here is what I did. Drilled the mixture plug and the screw is now about 2.5 turns out. This got rid of the stupid popping and the bike now starts (warm and cold) perfectly. It also idles great. Also had a 45 Int in it from the factory and we left that alone. For the needle I tried an 88 sporty needle I already had. It DID NOT like it. So I shimmed the stock needle with two #4 washers. It is doing much better but it is still coughing at an odd time. It only happens when the bike is warm and NOT under a load. So if you are going through the gears it runs wonderful. I do not think it needs a 46 Int jet. But any suggestions on the needle? I was thinking removing a washer or trying a needle from CV Performance? Any ideas?
Sorry for the long post but trying to provide all the info. Thanks everyone and Merry Christmas!
