Hi all
I'm trying to buy a 1998 bike and I'm not sure how to avoid a fraud.
Looking for a bike under 50k.
First question: what will be a normal mpg? I.e fat boy
Will it be some noise valves?
In fat boy will you have vibration from the very moment you turn the bike on?
If the bike is in good condition but I have to re build the engine, any idea on average cost?
Any tips ?

First question: what will be a normal mpg? I.e fat boy Depends on engine work and carb.
40-45 is not unreasonable.
Will it be some noise valves? Yes.
If it sounds like a pissed off sewing machine then everything is good.
In fat boy will you have vibration from the very moment you turn the bike on? It's a softail so yes.
If the bike is in good condition but I have to re build the engine, any idea on average cost? Depends on what you do to rebuild it.
Any tips ?
Thanks.
See above
BTW I wouldn't consider a bike to be in good condition if I had to rebuild the motor right away.

This.
This depends on what you are looking for. If you're after a bike that will serve as a foundation for a project, that's one thing. If you're after a bike that you can run as-is without any work, that's another.
There are a zillion evos out there of both types. If you're the slightest bit ishy about this particular one, why bother? Just keep looking for the one you want.

This bike is really nice, the seller re build it and did a good job, he is asking 6000 my doubts are engine and mpg, he said a tank lasts 110 miles. It will be my first HD and I want to be sure, I had other bikes that spent more time on the workshop rather than the street.
I want to check Road King now but my guts are in Fatboys.

You are right, I have to keep looking, is like a girlfriend, the more you check the more you love them. The problem is marriage though.
If he is only geting 110 miles to a tank of fuel than there might be an issue with the tune after the rebuild or the po is really riding the **** out of it....
If he did indeed rebuild it ask for a spec sheet and receipts or if he had it done, where and by whom and then talk to them. My 98 fatboy is very built and i still get 140 miles to a tank of fuel. The fatboy has a fuel capacity of 4.7 gl.
Do you know what carb is on it?

Between that statement and the 110 miles to the tank tells me he did a **** poor job on the rebuild.
Either walk away (read run) or don't pay more than $3k because you're gonna have to redo the motor.
