Default LED headlamp replacement bulb?

Does anyone know what the LED wattage equivalent is for the standard 55/65 hi lo halogen bulb on my Evo. I have searched the net for several hours and cannot find any kind of chart that makes those comparisons... Also is heat really an issue with these LED lamps? Thanx..

I think lumens is how you want to compare them. I've read that a standard 55/65 H4 bulb is in the range of 1100-1600 lumens, so the cree based H4 bulbs all over Ebay in the 6000-8000 lumen range would be.... bright. I've hesitated to try them in a standard reflector because the effect on approaching traffic may be pretty severe. The LED specific kits like the Trucklite use a different reflector, which is where the cost is.

Heat is an issue with the high end chipset LED bulbs, but it's not the heat in the housing, it's the heat produced in the chip. That's why all the bulbs have crazy heatsinks on the back. Not much, if any heat would be produced by the actual diodes I wouldn't think. I certainly stand to be corrected by someone who's actually tried one though.

This is the best deal out there.

They also have a three piece kit if you also need passing lamps like on a Heritage, Road King, etc.

No heat issues with these. They run cooler than regular lights. The only thing is they stick out more from the regular headlight retainer. An easy way to improve that appearance is by installing a Frenched trim ring.

Yeah I'd like to brighten things up a bit too, I'm running an H4 with a diamond cut lens, it's ok,better than the sealed beam I put aside, but gotta be something better out there in a five inch light.

LED bulbs all seem to be much lower power than any other type, so heat shouldn't be a problem. It's higher power halogen or HID types that can create a heat problem.

So far I haven't seen an LED replacement bulb that is a decent alternative to a conventional bulb. They tend to be much larger, so that the light they generate is scattered by the conventional reflector, so the beam cannot be as well concentrated or focussed.

Personally I won't use one, but prefer a complete LED unit, such as Trucklite.

LEDs do produce heat in the circuitry, so it's in a different way than incandescents. An overheated LED will stop working, so the heat sinks are to protect itself, rather than its surroundings.

I bought a set of these for the Road Glide after doing much research.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/321926615565...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT They have been in for about two months.

They put out about 1875 lumens on low ~18 watts, and 2500 lumens high beam ~24 watts. There are different mounting collars which you can screw on. The 9004 collar is not a true 9004 collar. It is missing the small tab in the lower portion of the collar. It looks like all of the ChiCom LED's are missing this tab. I fabricated a fit for it, and it does not move around now.

As far as performance goes, this is the best light that I have ever had on the Road Glide. It may not be focused exactly right, but I can see better with this than anything else that I have tried. Additionally, there is a noticeable improvement on voltage draw. My volt gauge would hove around 12.5 volts with incandescent. It now hangs in the 13+ volt range.

I will admit that most of my night time riding is on fairly well lit streets. The few times that I have been out on rural roads I really noticed an improvement.

Disclaimer: I am neither an owner, nor vendor of these lights. Simply a happy customer.
