The led h4 headlamp bulb i purchased is from a USA vendor for $24.00. EBAY, Got it in 3 days. Haven't tried it yet but when i do i will post the results... The fan is in front of the leds which I would think would work better but not really sure. I haven't seen any that have the fan on the rear but I was wondering if the fan is on the outside how will it cool the leds?
Like in a computer, the heat sink takes the heat away from the chip, and the fan cools the heat sink by blowing cooler air across and speeding the heat exchange. I imagine the heat sink on the rear mounted fan models spans from the inside of the housing to the outside. Mounting the fan inside would seem to be pretty inefficient. Would have to build up heat.
I've been looking at these LED lamps for both the bike and the car (both take the same bulb. My concern is that the fan or heat sink on the back makes the use of the stock rubber weather seal between the bulb and the lamp housing impossible to use. How do you keep rain water out of the lamp housing and the cooling fan?
I think you could mount the boot first, then the bulb. It is a real tight fit. I gave up after a while. What I did was cut the boot, put it on, and rubber cement a patch from an inner tube over the cut.

That's sort of what I was thinking would be necessary. I'm not willing to sacrifice a rubber boot I may not be able to replace if it doesn't work out.

That's a setup I've not seen before. All the other LED bulbs I've seen have either a big fan or a big heat sink BEHIND the bulb, outside the headlamp housing, and a pigtail to connect the bulb to the headlamp connector, since the connector no longer fits the rear of the "bulb". I question how long such a tiny fan would last, though.
