Default My first FXR

Bought it 2 weeks ago..1985, all stock except pipes. Even the paint is stock and from the factory. In the past, I always prefered the FX style bike..had an '85 with Evo that I loved. I didn't care for the FXRs at all. Plus the fact that during the 80s and 90s they were victims of some of the horrible, overly done customs of the era, ie: front air dams, splashy paint, billet everything, etc. Now that they've been out of production for 15 tears (except for the FXR CVOs) I decided to look into them..rubber mounts, five speeds, suspension that actually works. Maybe there's something to this. I love it! Light and nimble, suprisingly fast (engine was rebuilt at HD factory 11k miles ago). As someone here said, the faster you go, the lighter the bike seems. The rearview mirrors were actually usable! I'm riding a 25 year old Harley and I feel like I'm on the edge of modern technology! It took a long time to find an unmolested original, but I finally did 8 miles from my house!

I just yesterday bought an 85 fxr. It is mostly stock. I went from a rice rocket to this. I like the fxr much better. I need to do some motor work to it though.

I used to do that ride in the frkin' cold living in IL. Hell on the seat cracking when it starts getting below 10deg. Hated the cold weather in IL; now I live in MN. What the .... was I thinking? Just picked up nice Le Pera solo seat; hope it doesn't crack in the cold. Running basically stock 85K no major work; base gaskets leak bad and I finally going to freshin' top end. Trying to decide whether or not I want to boost compression and run hotter ignition? Ride safe, congrats on your new ride.
