The air cleaner housing was an easy swap, especially once I got rid of that awful slide Keihin they used in those years and switched to a CV.
As to the enclosed chain - it's a great thing if you're more interested in performance than appearance. On an FXRT the appearance doesn't matter because the bags hide most of it anyway. I removed my first chain at about 60,000 miles. It still adjusted well, but Icouldn't believe it could keep going that long.I pulled a new one on asI removed it. When I measured the one I took off itwas still good - had stretched only half a link. Now, at 180,000 miles, I'm considering changing the second one. They don't break, they don't wear, and they are ten times easier to change than a belt if you decide you want to.
Some people think the enclosed chain is a hassle when changing a tire. Usually, that's because they don't know how to do it, and in that, I'm including a whole lot of Harley mechanics. It'snot really any harder than changing any chain-drive wheel; you just have to know how.
This is what mine looks like now - and it's for sale. Drop by my website for more info.
