Default Ratios

Can someone further explain to me the difference between a primary setup a drive pulley setup in tegards to ratios and how a person calculates these ratios?

Calculate ratios as "driven over driver" so a 72 tooth pulley being driven by a 24 tooth would be a 3:1 ratio a 72 driven by a 25 will be a 2.88:1 ratio....1:1 is direct drive as in 1 RPM from the motor is 1 RPM at the input shaft of the tranny.

You can dial in a variety of ratios and a higher ratio (the lower the first number in the ratio the higher the gearing) will reduce revs across the range and also slow down your giddy up from the lights. You can usually buy your set up with a choice of ratios but work out what your bike is running currently before choosing your parts. It is usually the crank pulley (the smaller of the two) that you have a choice of.

Perfect description. You have 3 gearing ratios in a HD. Primary drive (clutch/compensator), Transmission (5th is 1:1 so can usually be ignored), and secondary drive (wheel pulley/transmission pulley). To get a final drive ratio you multiply all of these together.
