Default Advice needed from the experienced.

Hello folks, I haven't posted here for a while, but my EVO is acting up and I need advice from those that know.

I started having trouble getting my starter to fire, I cleaned up my battery and starter contacts, which did not solve the problem, and became convinced that my start switch was the culprit.

It was rebuilt, and it wasn't.

I've been paying better attention to what get's me to a condition where the starter will fire, and now when I get no starter response I rotate my ignition fork lock lob off the Ignition position to the lights or accessory position and back, and so far it has fired up every time.

I suspect something is sticking, perhaps wearing out.
Can anyone tell me what I am going to see once I dig in there, better yet what is the most likely fix?
I'd like to be sure that I have parts available for the most likely problem.

So far I haven't found anything clear on-line, and the factory manual shows the mechanical parts and some sort of thickness gauge, but I am unclear about the switch, if it easily replaced (And available), etc.
Anyone have experience with this?
What am I getting into?
If you have one, how thick is the gauge?

Whoops! 1989 FLHS.

Thanks in advance.

Check voltage at the green wire on the starter (unplug it first).
If it's not full battery voltage then try the sticky above about adding a relay.

All great advice. Many times I have taken the switch apart and cleaned the gummy-ness
out and applied a very light coat of grease to the contacts.

Another thing seldom mentioned is gummy/worn out starter brushes.

Just a few more ideas for you....Lol...

Not sure if this will help. You may just need to clean and service the ignition switch.

jump the battery cable stud on the starter to the starter solenoid connector. If it turns over it's in the wiring or switches. just make sure it's in neutral before you attempt it....
